 | 09:16 pm - 231 million percent. Zimbabwe continues to be incredibly, mindblowingly fucked. Is Mugabe just going to wait until everyone in the country is dead? Or rather, is everyone around Zimbabwe going to wait until everyone in the country is dead before hauling Mugabe in to the World Court for a hanging? Current Mood: indescribable

 | 04:26 am - Einstein & Eddington
"Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine."
"We are bits of stellar matter that got cold by accident, bits of a star gone wrong."
“Imagine yourself in the midst of space and then try to tell me how big you are.”
-- Sir Arthur Eddington
I really liked Einstein & Eddington. It left me rather thoughtful on certain subjects, which I will probably ramble about at a later date. And also the certainty that Arthur Eddington is my new hero, and the renewed certainty that David Tennant is wonderful. But in the meantime: other people's stuff!
th_esaurus lamented the lack of discussion so I thought I'd put together a few links:
butterfly's lovely, long squee (which I totally agree with).
futuresoon talks E&E and a love of science.
selenak discusses scientist spouses and historical context .
gritsinmisery has a short but sweet squee over DT.
Team Tennant has print articles on E&E.
The comm general_theory has an assortment of E&E fic already. Current Mood: sleepy

 | 12:57 pm - Worldly Links Why All the Great Depression Analogies Are Wrong
Back then, we were cursed with a feckless Federal Reserve, and a wealthy Treasury secretary, Paul Mellon, saw the downturn as a force for good. "Liquidate labor, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers, liquidate real estate," he said. "People will work harder, live more moral lives."
Newsflash: Zimbabwe Traumatizes Carpetblogger
"To steal from Tolstoy, all functional countries resemble each other, but every fucked up country is fucked up in its own way. [..] Zimbabwe blows them all out of the water."
Sundown Towns: When Signs Said 'Get Out'
"Most read 'Nigger, Don't Let the Sun Set on You in -- ,' " says James Loewen, the Washington-based author of a controversial new book called "Sundown Towns." But sometimes, he adds, the sign makers tried to get clever. "Some came in a series, like the old Burma Shave signs, saying, ' . . . If You Can Read . . . You'd Better Run . . . If You Can't Read . . . You'd Better Run Anyway.' " Current Mood: groggy

 | 05:15 pm - SGA - 519 - Brain Storm Dear Martin Gero,
Sorry man, I don't care for McKay-Keller. Smells to much like the whole of Season 4 of SG-1 to me.
Disappointed, Me.
ETA: I just realized that the very first scene opened up the whole unrequited thing as a plot point. And when Obama repels DADT, as he plans (look under 'Support for the LGBT Community'), the show could've gone funny ways. Also, I'll just have to let Rodney get his share of happiness, the events of that future that we've seen in a previous ep would happen and McKay should have that. (Yeah, I know it's silly, but the Sheppard-McKay banter in the first season is what made me love the show.) Current Mood: disappointed
